SESSIONS
- How should i start? -
Before my sessions, I always start in prayer, that I would be Spirit-led. Then, I come up with a rough plan of what chore we will do. Usually, it depends on the kid. For the kids that need to learn how to work hard I will do some weeding, raking, or cleaning up manure. There are also simpler, less dirty chores like washing dishes, mopping floors, wiping down counters, etc. After that, I plan an activity. There is so much to do here, and within time you will be finding your own unique activities to do that compliment your kid. In the beginning, though, it can be hard to come up with sessions ideas!
Here are a list of a few “starter” activities that are common around here:
- Crafts (look at the CVYR Craft Binder located in the Craft Room!)
- Woodworking projects (building a birdhouse, making a jewelry box, even make a wooden sword!)
- Plant a flower in a clay pot
- Make hand salves or lip balm (resources in Horticulture binder)
- Paint a picture
- Hop on a horse!
- Walk and groom small animals
- Go fishing!
- Make jewelry
To start every session, I give an enthusiastic, genuine smile and greeting. I want them to know that seeing them is one of the best parts of my day because it is. Even if they’re boogers, I want them to never question my love and genuine excitement for them.
Every session is a fresh start for God to do something awesome, and with that mindset, fake excitement doesn’t exist. Even if we have to start the session with “real” talk because a parent communicated with me about a difficult situation, I want them to know that it’s in love and I see more in them. These kids are more than their behavior.
