The rest we can teach you. Minimal hours are once a week, twice a month (2 hours for each day / total of four hours a month). Our ranch season runs August through June.

You will be working alongside the director and involved in so many areas of possibility. We have such an amazing and exhausting vision for this ranch and its students.  This will take an amazing group of volunteers – called by God – but it can be accomplished! Meet our Volunteer Coordinator

Gene Richert – Volunteer Coordinator

I was born in the Central Valley and raised in San Jose. After high school I served four years in the Army Security Agency in a classified capacity. I served one tour of duty in Vietnam. I attended Bible college in the mid-70’s and spent about 8 years in ministry.

There was a change of direction in the mid-80’s, and I entered the teaching profession after graduating from Fresno Pacific College (not yet a university). I was a 6th grade classroom teacher for 21 years, retiring in 2009. Still loving the children, but not so much the system, I was a substitute teacher for 7 years. God has gifted me with, I suppose, Administration. My brain seems to function in spreadsheets and flow charts. Aaron Ernst, whom I met in the 80’s when he was 11, made a presentation at our church about needs at Crown Valley Youth Ranch. I felt God leading me to at least inquire how I could help. After a two-hour interview with Aaron, we came to the conclusion that I could help out with volunteers here at the Ranch.

I see my job here as a facilitator who puts people and jobs together. I try to keep track of the needs we have here at the Ranch, then find and schedule volunteers to meet those needs. I also keep track of volunteer hours served (for IRS purposes). I am a volunteer myself. I serve about 5 hours a week.
